TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON.
One of the biggest challenge that we have in directing business is to know when to hold the course steady, versus changing things up. In fact, you’re probably doing both simultaneously in different aspects.
As you know, I’m a fan of cycles, seasons, holidays, and the general rhythm of life. Not because I’m easily bored, but because it helps to rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul.
WE GENERALLY STINK at making commitments. OK, maybe you’re fantastic, but I know that I stumble with this all the time.
And I’m not talking about flaking out on your New Year’s Resolutions. I’m referring to how we rely on others around us to create a successful business.
I’ve been in a class this week called The Foundations of Generative Leadership. Don’t be thrown off if the phrase sounds a little weird or even New-Agey. This stuff is incredibly practical.
So let me unpack this concept of “commitment” in the business context.
WE WOULD LIKE TO THINK that we have a very generous culture. And we pretty much do, in many respects.
But we struggle with receiving gifts, especially at the personal level.
We have lots of ways to deflect compliments and praise:

One of the participants asked a really great question: What does a mission statement actually look like? You need to capture something with power and clarity when you’re looking for great partners, employees, and investors.
I promised that I’d expand on the answer to that question here.
