WE SEEM TO HAVE a whole lot of things going on right now. Clients. Projects. Presentations. Prospects.
And, for whatever reason, I’m hearing similar things from a lot of other people as well.
This happens. But how do we keep from getting stressed out when things are super busy?

REACHING THE TOP can be exciting … but it’s also a lonely place. I’ve actually found that the fear of reaching goals can hold people back.
Because when you reach the top, what’s next?
I happen to believe that it’s the business equivalent of the “mid life crisis.” Is this all there is? Wasn’t life supposed to be glorious by now?
EVERY DAY IS A BALANCING ACT, constantly responding to the winds of change.
I get that.
But you have to remember where you’re going. When people walk a tightrope, it’s not about focusing on the two feet around them and the infinite space below.
ONE OF THE UNIVERSAL KEYS to getting stuff done is to focus. Avoid distractions, concentrate on one thing, and you’ll actually move ahead faster.
I get that. Especially in our highly distracted culture, you can spend your entire day just flitting from one shiny object to the next.
But there’s more to the story.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING THINGS HAPPEN when you stick to a great mission for years.
I wrote about The ShareLingo Project a couple of years ago, so I was super excited when James Archer contacted me about what’s been happening. It turns out that he’s just 22 days away from launching his new book about developing programs which build cross-language learning through cross-cultural relationships.
Quick synopsis: ShareLingo brings together small teams of English and Spanish speakers where they learn the foreign language from each other while building personal relationships and deep appreciation for culture. Feel free to check out that previous article for more of the story.
PROGRESS COMES FROM BEING CLEAR. But of course it’s real easy to say that, right?
The problem is that it’s real easy to let the urgent overtake the important. Constantly.

Here’s a simple example. It seems like in between my meetings today, that I’ve been beating my email inbox back. Right now it has 29 messages in it, but every time a new one comes in I have to pay attention.
Just in case it’s something urgent.
YOU’RE SCARED TO TAKE the next step.
And it’s not even a bet-the-farm situation, where you have to put everything on the line. This is actually a reasonable decision, but you’re stuck on tradeoffs between different requirements and points of view.
There’s a way to break out of this paralysis.
Scientific researchers run experiments, and huge progress is made. So let’s do the same thing here.
STARTING UP A BUSINESS can be a real challenge.
Let me revise that.
For most people, we struggle with what it takes. But I met a guy this week who’s started up so many ventures that it boggles the mind. And many, if not most, were quite successful.
He’s that “serial entrepreneur” that we tend to laud and admire.
JOHN MORRIS HAS AN AMAZING STORY.
After a devastating snowboarding accident in 2005, John went through all kinds of turmoil. He’ll be incapacitated for the rest of his life.
But that propels him into making an amazing contribution to the disabled community. Read the rest of this entry »
THIS WEEK I WAS CHALLENGED
by a speaker named Todd Musselman to think about the concept of making choices. One of his key messages? “At every moment in time, you’re doing exactly what is most important to you.”
I have a resistance to this, as you might as well. It feels like an incredible amount of my time is spent on extraneous stuff, trivialities, and annoyances.
Yet, this is absolutely true.
