WE SEEM TO HAVE a whole lot of things going on right now. Clients. Projects. Presentations. Prospects.

And, for whatever reason, I’m hearing similar things from a lot of other people as well.

This happens. But how do we keep from getting stressed out when things are super busy?

For those in seasonal businesses, it can be a bit easier. You know that after the holiday season, or the tax filing deadline, or after the busy summer, that things will slow down.

That’s a good thing to keep in mind, because this too shall pass.

But for other busy periods, the question seems to be: Is this a trend, or is it temporary?

That’s when it’s useful to look into the underlying causes. For me, the busy-ness relates to:

  • Things I volunteered to do – so I can stop doing that so much.
  • An uptick in prospects responding to my messages – that will likely continue as long as the local economic environment stays positive.
  • People who are looking to get things done before the end of spring – so that will probably reduce in about 3 months.

You can figure this out for yourself by examining the source of your workload. Look through your calendar to see how you’re spending your time – including both the work time and personal time.

Don’t get judgmental about this. Sure, there were some decisions you made which affect the workload, but all you can affect is your future decisions. This is really about learning, not beating yourself up.

And stay optimistic that this, too, you’ll be able to figure out.

Time to get back to work!
