“IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO, you’ll never work a day in your life.” This quote has been attributed to a variety of people, so I’m not going to pick just one.
It has a strong foundation of truth in it. I do indeed love my work, and it’s totally changed my outlook on my career, indeed, the rest of my life.
But I don’t love it all the time.
And I don’t love every part of it. There’s grunge work and boring parts and annoyances.
J OSH DAPKUS
manages the local Bayada Home Health Care marketing group. I confess that I wasn’t really aware of this company, but the more I find out the more impressed I am. Bayada has a range of services to help those wanting caring, supportive health care in the home.
But this isn’t really about the company. It’s about Josh’s journey to get to this destination.
Josh was strongly motivated by his grandmother’s experience with dementia. As you might imagine, this was stressful for him and the whole family. And it convinced him that he would love to spend his life helping others with these challenges.
ALMOST EVERY INDUSTRY has some kind of seasonality.
When I talk to someone about their business, it’s usually fascinating to dig into the cycles which are natural for them.
This came to mind today because I had a chance to talk with a lady who’s starting up a great business bringing products from South America and Asia here to Colorado. I suspect that many of these products will be used as gifts, which means that she’ll be connected to the gift-giving occasions around Christmas, Mother’s Day, and so on. Birthdays happen year round, of course, so that may help even out the revenue stream a little.
Her primary selling methods will be on her website and via markets and similar events – which means lots of activity during the warmer months.
SALVATION IS AT HAND! Christ is risen!
I would like to take this moment to extend to you the warmth and joy of this, our most holy day of the Christian year. Nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus showed us our path out of sin and into God’s loving presence.
Are you taking time every day to build this into yourself and your business? I don’t care if you market yourself as a Christian company. But certainly you should be letting your values shine forth.
DO YOU PRAY for your business?
I know that I’ve struggled with this question over the years.
In our society, we try hard to separate our religious lives on Sunday from our secular lives the other six days of the week.
But God has asked us to be focused on him at all times, not just for an hour or two.
C HRISTIANS ARE CALLED to be joyful:
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. — Romans 15:13
This isn’t easy, of course. We all get discouraged by happenings in our families, in our businesses, in society. This is not an easy time.
But I’m not sure that there’s EVER been an easy time.
THERE IS A POPULAR PHRASE,
“You are what you eat.” If you’re unfamiliar with it, the idea is that you should be careful about what you put in your body – because it is the foundation for what your body becomes.
This is a powerful concept that can be applied to other domains as well.
A number of years ago, I started noticing that my state of mind reflected what I was watching, listening to, and reading at the time. Read the rest of this entry »

is a pastor who is starting up a new church in Fort Collins, St Thomas Church. He brings a wealth of experience and amazing energy, so I have confidence that he’ll see success with this venture.
I first met him at a local Chamber of Commerce event. How unusual is that, right? It’s almost as if business relationships can’t at all be associated with spirituality.
So of course I just had to find out more.
GOD
IS THE COMPOSER of the universe. Knowing the beginning, end, and everything in between, He has carefully constructed this beautiful place we pass through.
I’m the eight note down in measure 93, the low A flat. I’m not particularly special, no more but no less important than anyone else in this entire symphony. I marvel at the wonderful intricacy of it all.
Because I’m limited, I only see those around me and a few who have gone before. Read the rest of this entry »
SOMETIMES
IT’S ONLY FAITH that gets you through.
This has been a tumultuous few weeks, both for my business and personally. I won’t go into details here, but it’s been … a testing time.
Life is not meant to be comfortable or convenient.
