IAM a member of a local group called Bridge Networking. I enjoy this as an asset for growing my business, but more important, doing good in the community.
It’s a values-based organization, which is a primary reason why I stay engaged and contribute.
It was a lot of fun to have a great discussion with the group this morning around what values really look like. Here’s the structure I introduced:
A DEAR friend died on Friday. He was a great, generous, caring man, and he improved many lives.
This got me thinking about the role that funeral leave plays in the business world. Yes, I know that’s a leap, but stay with me here.

IT’S A HAPPY COINCIDENCE that I work inside a company which has a fish as a logo. Of course, the symbol of the fish is powerful for Christianity, dating back to the earliest days of the Church.

SINCE I’m letting my Christian worldview be more visible in this blog, I need to expand on this concept of “values-based,” and how it relates to “Christian values” or even “spiritual values.”
My view is that there’s a broad concept of being values-based that may, or may not, be explicitly religious. “Values,” to my thinking, are goals and outlooks which are to a positive benefit of people and society, which many would be attracted to for altruistic reasons.
WE all have companies that we respect for various reasons. Sure, you have products and services you like – but I’m not talking about that. This is about respecting a business because it has a wonderful character.
A common example here in Fort Collins is New Belgium Brewing. They have a fantastic reputation in this community, because of the way they support employees and contribute to making this a great place to live. Read the rest of this entry »
