Humans, like all animals, have survived because we look for signals of danger.
This is a deep-seated tendency. It helps survival, but it’s not so good for rational thinking and empathy. It’s part of that lizard brain back there.
What’s the problem? Well, a sense of fear pushes you toward reactive thinking rather than thoughtful planning. Which is great when you have just seconds to respond, but not so great in most situations in modern life.

We’re supposed to be all optimistic for the new year, right? And here I am with that crushing news.
As always, the challenge for us is to stay positive and forward-looking, despite the fact that things won’t align according to plan. They rarely do.

But the word “optimism” tends to feel a little bit forced these days; it sounds like maybe it’s something you’re either born with or not.
So I’m working on building my intentional positivity.

Here’s the way out of that fallacy: Maybe it doesn’t matter if you change the world, but instead just for one person at a time.
That particular employee. That one customer. Your child. Your neighbor.
