Fuzzy

I work with a lot of people who are troubled by how fuzzy the future is.

That’s the nature of it, of course, because the future is not yet written. That was the ultimate message of Back To The Future, that what’s to happen is unwritten and up to us to decide.

If that’s true, is our job then to just wait for the future to happen and then react to whatever that is? A little, I suppose, but I don’t find that satisfying.

Instead, I’m looking for the places where I can make a difference – in areas which matter to me. Sometimes that’s big, like when I managed a group of 50 people.

More often it’s small. My colleagues. My family.

Myself.

It’s because I actually have a chance of making a contribution in a small way. An individual client who’s struggling with a situation in their business. My family. My church parish.

The future is still fuzzy at pretty much any scale. The difference is whether I can have an impact. Improve something. Help people be happier.

But yeah, it’s still fuzzy.
