If you’re a leader, then people will look to your crystal ball to provide some reassurance about the future. The problem, of course, is that you have no magic crystal ball and can’t tell the future better than anyone else.

But did you notice that I used the word “reassurance”? Because that’s what people are really seeking. Being able to tell the future is one way to do that, but not the only way. Honestly, if you try to rely just on THAT skill, people are going to be skeptical because they know that nobody has the ability.

So what is it about, then?

Reassurance is about being able to trust and rely on something. And even more than THINGS, it’s about relying on PEOPLE.

When you know that someone is always there to help and watch your back, you trust them.

When you can trust someone’s word, you can rely on them.

When someone is consistent and reliable, you can start having confidence in the future around them.

So even though the future is quite unpredictable, it really helps to know that the people around us will help us do the best we can. Even though far from perfect, it’s much better than if we just let stuff happen to us.

And even if it’s not better, at least we can FEEL better because we’re all working together.

Are you a leader that people can rely on? Do you watch out for them? Do you provide support when they’re feeling a bit lost?
