Last week I talked about asking for and getting help when you really need it. And right now, a lot of people need help.
So it’s also a time of giving – which may feel silly when you yourself are struggling. But there are some solid reasons why this can be so powerful.

First, it’s that people who give help are the first to receive help. Call it karma if you wish, but there’s no question that this is the way human relationships work. People help those they know and love and respect.
Your giving doesn’t have to take the same form as what you receive. If you don’t have enough money to pay the bills, it could be unwise to give away what little cash you have. Instead, look to share your skills and expertise. Mentor someone just starting out. Give visibility to someone whose marketing efforts have fallen apart. In the end, though, it’s about asking yourself what kind of world you want to live in. Do you desire society to be more gracious, generous, and helpful? Well, the place to start is with yourself. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
