These times have been unsettling for all of us, and seem to be shaking the very foundation. And it’s going to go on even longer, sad to say.
For me, the key words have been Flexibility and Patience.
Flexibility, because it seems nothing has been going according to plan for weeks now. Patience, because I have to spend a lot of time waiting for others to sort things out. But there’s one more word.
I’m using the word Humanity. I’ve seen some wonderful examples of generosity, forgiveness, and helpfulness which just warm my heart. In my mind, that’s because people are treating each other in a much more human way, not just as annoyances and transactions.
I saw some of this come out after 9/11. It lasted for some months, but we started getting brittle again especially when we launched into a war of revenge.
Perhaps it’s similar to the Great Depression in the 1930s, I’m not sure. I’m not quite that old.
But this too shall pass. There’s always hope.
As long as we treat each other with compassion. We still know how to do that, right?
