Returning from my holiday break, I experienced a palpable difficulty re-engaging with my work. In one sense, it felt like I had to put on a completely different brain that I hadn’t used for a couple of weeks.

It was a welcome break, and gave me the opportunity to reflect on the bigger picture.

That’s something I love doing with my clients as well – to give them space to get away from the day-to-day issues. To think bigger.

Don’t get me wrong; progress is made by those daily actions. It really does matter how you respond to that customer or treat the employee.

But it’s given meaning by the larger context.

That context might come from your personal values, by your company goals, or by the collective mission. All are useful and important.

They guide your daily actions, but they aren’t action themselves. They’re just intentions and desires.

So let’s connect not let the daily activity become disconnected from the bigger picture. Either for you or the people you work with.

Because that’s where meaning comes from.
