Humans are funny; other people are simultaneously the best and worst parts of our days. Often the exact same people.

This stems from the fact that we are social beings. We care about others’ opinions of us, and we arrange things so that we depend on each other to get things done.

It’s a humorous part of being alive.

Now, I get the frustrations – I experience them myself. But I also recognize that this steals my energy. I’m not a particularly combative person.

I build energy by being together with a group who respect each other and are working toward an important goal. I look forward to celebrating accomplishments, and working constructively to resolve tough issues.

I’m mostly an introvert, so this has surprised me. But in fact, accomplishing things all by myself just doesn’t have the same motivating power as doing it together as a group.

I’m much more motivated to accomplishing things with others, rather than in spite of others. Which is why I work hard as a leader to create that sense of teamwork and shared goals.

I hope that’s what you focus on too.
