It’s a new year, fresh with possibilities! Let’s go team!
But you might be battling against winter blahs, uncertain economy, or still reeling from the craziness of the holiday season.
It can be hard to get people energized in that situation. But as a leader, it’s part of your job to be a cheerleader.
It’s useful to start by having a little getaway with yourself, even if that’s a thoughtful afternoon with a notebook sipping beer. It’s time to ponder:
- What gives you hope in this new year?
- What are your new aspirations?
- Would it be good to refresh any goals which have lost their energy?
- What are changes you anticipate this year?
Next, you can bring that to your advisory or leadership team. Kick them around with your coach or mentor to help make them more concrete and compelling.
Remember, if YOU don’t really have your heart in your goals, you can’t draw anybody else in either.
As you start to make decisions around updated goals, it’s good to consider:
- What is the language which will have the right impact with my people?
- What images (pictures, videos, stories) will bring this to life?
- What fears might people raise?
Then we can launch into bringing the team into the new year!
