I’ve noticed that people are quite uncomfortable with complicated situations: we’re always looking for a single root cause.
Or a straightforward categorization.
This has ultimately led to huge polarization in our society, where people are pulling apart into camps.
But reality isn’t neat and clean. It’s messy.
So our challenge as leaders is to acknowledge that our world is a messy place. Competitors do things. Customers do things. Government does stuff. Employees change.
Nothing ever has a single root cause. It’s always multiple things that came together at a particular time which end up producing something you call good or bad.
Or maybe both good and bad.
Frustrating? I suppose. But the more you can come to peace with this complexity, the more you can find joy in living in the real world.
