When you’re dealing with people, things rarely go exactly to plan.

Why is that? Because we’re all imperfect and broken in our own ways. It’s one of the things about being human.

If you’re a leader, you’ve also taken on the role of organizational healer. You may not feel qualified, but this is something you can’t fully outsource.

Because it’s core to leadership.

So what does that mean? Well, you have to accept imperfection and help people learn from mistakes.

You have to identify the cracks and overlaps between peoples’ roles, and design improvements to reduce those as problems.

You have to watch for changes over time, because people are constantly changing.

And you have to watch yourself, as you create as many issues as anyone else. That’s the humility part of being a leader.

And celebrate the occasions when things happen to work right!
