RUNNING A BUSINESS can feel pretty isolated.
Even when you’re surrounded by employees, teams, partners, suppliers, contractors … it can feel like the weight of the whole world is on your shoulders. Because all of them seem to look to you for direction and answers.
And you don’t want to burden your loved ones with business concerns: it seems unfair.
I find that a lot of people use me as an independent sounding board for deeper concerns. A coach is a place where you can be more open and honest, because it’s a confidential relationship.
And my role as a coach isn’t to take ownership for my client’s issues, just to help them reach the best outcome for themselves and their business.
What’s changed over recent decades? Well, I believe that the “rules of business” used to be much clearer. Markets moved slower, and industry best practices tended to be pretty stable.
These days, markets and opportunities are shifting constantly. Global markets are a reality. Technology gives you direct access to billions of people.
And because of this, the speed of everything has skyrocketed. No deliberating over a decision at a measured pace.
Humans weren’t designed to operate at this pace, and it’s showing up in people’s thinking. And the way we resolve that is through trusting relationships.
Who do you have in your corner?
