I have an appointment set up, then sit in the coffee shop for half an hour wondering why they didn’t show.
Did I write it down wrong? Did they decide I’m a jerk? Were they turned off by that email I sent yesterday?
The truth is that it’s never about me. People have lives and distractions. And to be honest, I’m not the most important part of their life.
Cut them some slack, Carl. This is annoying, yes, but now I have time to catch up on my reading. Or just watch people.
This came to mind when a client didn’t show up for our meeting recently. I’ve learned not to worry about it, but I was wondering. And it turns out that he got caught up in a fabulous family event and lost track of time.
What a wonderful thing to be happening during the holidays! I wish I could get engaged more that way!
My brain will make up all kinds of stories, but the truth is … it’s not about me. I need to be human and go with it.
