I recently had the opportunity to chat with Paul Kirby, author of The FUSE Pathway: How to Find and Live a Fulfilling Life.
Paul has discovered that his joy comes from combining his interests in art, engineering, and even philosophy into what he does as an artist and author.
He even built a robot which creates its own art. So I feel a kinship because I also have many diverse interests.
I’ve found that it’s wonderful to become immersed in your work. But I’ve also realized that, over the years, this can lead to boredom and even burnout. It hasn’t happened yet with my coaching, because I get excited about the wide variety of clients that I’ve been blessed to work with.
But I also don’t define my entire life through my coaching work. I’m also a choir director, father and husband, and a recent project has been to implement smart home technology through the house.
Oh, and I’m learning blacksmithing. Because … why not?
So I’d encourage you to think through what kind of balance you’d like to seek out in your life. Yes, become a great leader and find the value in your work.
But don’t let that take over your entire life unless you want it to.
