Last week I had the chance to see a virtual tour through the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA.

It took me back to when my wife created a quilt much like what you see here. What impressed me was the careful detail and commitment to such a long project.

We don’t tend to do that much anymore, instead focusing on instant gratification.

In the work context, it can be important to develop a course of dedication and persistence. After all, you’d like your organization to last a long time, right? Maybe even outlive you?

That’s why it’s important to identify what’s important, create a plan, and then stick to it even over years.

That doesn’t mean the plan can’t change or adjust to reality. But if you’re doing something important, you have to know what that is and where you’re ultimately going. Even if you don’t actually reach the nirvana you were headed towards. It can be about the journey and making progress.

Some of the quilts we saw were centuries old. What are you doing that you’d like to last that long?
